Autobiographical notes by David Allen.

Originally from England, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I emigrated to France in the 1960s. Living in Paris I used to haunt the stamp market at the Rond Point des Champs Elysees, and I still do every time that I return to France on a trip. I became interested in the stamps and covers of St. Pierre and Miquelon. At that time few people showed any interest in this area. After two years in Paris, I emigrated to Canada and on the way in 1965 I went to St. Pierre and Miquelon where I stayed with a family for a few weeks. At that time you had to take the boat from North Sydney , quite often a very uncomfortable journey. After my visit to St. Pierre and Miquelon, I crossed Canada leisurely by train and ended up at the end of the line in Vancouver, British Columbia. Meaning only to stay for a while and then go on to New Zealand before returning to Europe to settle down, I find myself still here thirty -one years later. Vancouver and Canada are now home.

My interest in philately has continued over the years, my special area being Atlantic Islands, many of which I have visited. I am a member of the B.C.Philatelic Society, the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Collectors' Society and the France and Colonies Society, also I am an active member of the St. Helena and Dependencies Philatelic Society. Not least of all I have been fortunate enough to link in with the group that has founded the St. Pierre and Miquelon Journal. My St. Pierre and Miquelon stamp collecting interests finish as of 1976 and I avidly collect all used stamps and covers for the islands. In 1995 I was fortunate enough to be able to make a return visit to St. Pierre and retrace some of my steps from earlier days.
