British North American Philatelic Society - BNAPEX St. John's , Newfoundland
will be the host for the British North American Philatelic Society's stamp show
on August 28, 29 and 30 1997 at the Hotel Newfoundland. This special event has
as its theme the 500th anniversary of the visit of John Cabot and his ship the
"Mathew" to Newfoundland waters. The organising committee have extended a
warm hand of invitation to those collectors who would like to visit and have warmly
welcomed the participation of stamp collectors who specialise in the philately
of St. Pierre and Miquelon. To this end many collectors of the stamps of the islands
will be exhibiting their material at St. John's and an invitation has been extended
to the St. Pierre and Miquelon Philatelic Society to join in and show their philatelic
treasures. There will be a gathering of collectors from all over North America
and it is planned that the St. Pierre and Miquelon collectors will visit St. Pierre
and on August 27 1997, hold a rendezvous there to meet each other and visit the
post office and hopefully meet their counterparts in the St. Pierre and Miquelon
Philatelic Society. If any body would like to participate in this exhibition information
can be obtained from : The Exhibits Chairman Mr. John Butt
264 Hamilton Avenue St.John's, NF. A1E 1J7 Canada. You can
also contact me, David Allen , Fax at 604-263-3141 or by E-mail at .
I'd be happy to help. I would love to hear from islanders who might be interested
in this project and maybe somebody, who reads this, could persuade the Postal Administration
of St. Pierre and Miquelon to participate in this project with the aim of getting
the philatelic material of the islands a wider exposure.
