One of the delights of collecting covers from small places is actually finding
them after they have been delivered to even stranger places. St. Pierre and Miquelon
presents just such a challenge. These types of cover are easy to contrive but
I was fortunate enough to be given the illustrated cover shown here. A simple
letter ,written in 1954 by Mme. Henriette Fitzpatrick in St. Pierre, addressed
to a correspondent in Pharijong, Tibet. Franked with definitives of this period
of time , the postage totals 17.00frs. which approximates to the correct rate
for a first step letter to foreign countries in 1954. The letter left St. Pierre
on March 03 1954 and arrived at its destination in Tibet, after travelling via
India, on May 03 1954. A journey length of two months. It would be interesting
to know the exact routing that it took, there is no clue on the letter except
for the arrival mark in Pharijong, Tibet.
